Explore Belize

The Country

belize.jpg

An ecological paradise, Belize is home to dense jungles where nature is unspoiled, pristine beaches unsullied by mile-high condominiums, and caves and ancient ruins ripe for exploration. Our friendly people, relaxed lifestyle, affordable living and proximity to the U.S. make Belize an attractive destination for travelers.

As Central America’s only English-speaking country, Belize is one of the fastest growing tourist vacation areas in the region.  The country boasts a stable economy and critical infrastructure of roads, utilities, hospitals, airports, finance and banking.  Belize has over 170 miles of coastline.  The climate is sub-tropical, with annual average temperature of 80°.

The country is home to a number of different ethnic groups, including the Mestiza, Maya, Garifuna, East Indian, Chinese and Mennonite.  Outwardly diverse, these ethnic groups blend seamlessly, creating a culture that is interesting, welcoming and uniquely Belize.

Retiring in Belize

Belize easily meets all the romantic requirements for a perfect retirement spot: gorgeous, unspoiled landscapes, great weather, friendly people and enough fun activities to keep even the most restless retiree busy for years.

But the best reasons to retire in Belize may not be romantic at all — Belize is a great choice for retirement for purely practical reasons, as well. Its stable economy (based on the U.S. dollar) offers a static two to one dollar conversion, and registration in Belize’s retirement program offers tax incentives to foreigners.  Travel to and from the U.S. is less than two hours from any of its direct destination sources, and assimilation is easy in this English-speaking country.

International Living included Belize in “The World’s Top Retirement Havens in 2007”.  For more information on retiring in Belize, click here.

Local Travel and Lodging

The best way to get around in Belize is to rent a car at the airport.

You can easily travel from the mainland to the islands or other parts of the country using the local airlines:
Tropic Air
Maya Island Air

Travel to the islands can also be provided by the local ferries.

Home to unspoiled jungles, ancient caves and undeveloped beaches, Belize is every eco-tourist’s dream destination, and Camino Del Rio is in the heart of it all.

Camino Del Rio shares Belize’s commitment to conservation and responsible development. The purity of nature is what makes Belize an attractive place, and our goal is to create a community in which people can enjoy nature without exploiting it.

In addition to the numerous hiking trails and considerable undeveloped jungle right in the Camino Del Rio community, our homes are just a quick ride from numerous attractions.

Belmopan, the nearby capital city, is the place to shop for staples and small gifts. For a more leisurely day of hunting for local treasures, head to Belize City, where the shops along the waterfront offer everything from art and jewelry to the regional spices that flavor Belizean meals.

Getting to Belize

Airplane In Sunset

Once you’re in Belize, you’ll feel as though you’re millions of miles from home. However, getting here has never been easier or quicker. Many airlines offer direct flights from U.S. airports.  When you arrive in Belize City, you’re only a quick and easy drive to Camino Del Rio and with little to no time change, your transition to “vacation mode” will be seamless.

Air travel to Belize is easy, with non-stop flights from many U.S. cities. While there are several municipal airports in Belize, the primary airport is the Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (Belize International Airport (BZE), in Belize City). The following airlines fly regular direct U.S.-to-Belize routes:
American Airlines (800-433-7300)
Delta Air Lines (800-223-2365)
Frontier Airlines Book Cheap Flights From Belize City
Grupo TACA (501-227-7363 in Belize)
